Northern Plains Retrievers, LLC is a medium-sized dog training facility, and Labrador Retriever breeding facility, located in Central Minnesota, 20 miles north of Alexandria and 7 miles west of Parkers Prairie.
We began training and breeding Labrador Retrievers in 2003 as a way to earn some extra money in the summer and help keep our two sons busy, while also instilling a sense of responsibility in them. As our passion for working with dogs grew so did our business, and in 2015 we both made a career change and started training and breeding dogs full-time!
Wade focuses on the training, handles dogs in hunt tests, and guides pheasant hunts at Paul Nelson Farm out of Gettysburg, SD in the fall. Julie is in charge of whelping and puppy development for the litters of black, chocolate, and yellow Labrador Retriever puppies we have each year, including the pointing Labrador puppies. She also handles our books, and is our social media director.
While we do work with other breeds, we specialize in offering superior professional training for retrievers. We limit our number of client dogs to 10-12 at a time in order to give them the attention needed to help them reach their full potential. In addition to training hunting dogs, we offer a training program for those owners interested in the hunt test game. We have handled and titled dogs in AKC Hunt Tests, HRC Hunt Tests, APLA Hunt Tests, and NATHA run and gun competitions.
At Northern Plains Retrievers we take our greatest satisfaction in hearing reports from our clients on what a great job their dogs are doing in the field, and how much they enjoy having them as part of their family. We hope you think of us whether you have a retriever you would like trained, or are looking for a quality Labrador puppy.
