Hip and Eye Guarantee

We guarantee the health of the hips and eyes of every dog purchased from Northern Plains Retrievers to be free from genetic defect to the age of 28 months.

Your Northern Plains Retrievers puppy’s eyes are guaranteed to pass a CAER (formerly CERF), exam.  This exam must be performed by a certified veterinary ophthalmologist.  If your pup receives a CAER number, our eye guarantee is fulfilled.  If it cannot receive a CAER number, your pup must be returned to Northern Plains Retrievers, complete with documented proof from the ophthalmologist, and it’s registration papers.  We will replace it with a puppy from a comparable breeding or refund the purchase price at our discretion.  We recommend you get your dogs eyes examined by a canine ophthalmologist before one year of age.

If your Northern Plains Retrievers puppy is diagnosed with hip dysplasia by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (O.F.A.), we will replace your dog with a puppy from a comparable breeding at the earliest possible date, or refund the purchase price at our discretion.  We will require all documentation from O.F.A., and written verification from a veterinarian that your dog has been spayed or neutered at your expense.  You should have your dogs hips x-rayed and sent in at 24 months of age.  O.F.A. will be the sole judge of the health of your dog’s hips.

Dogs with problems found after turning 28 months old are not covered under this guarantee.  If the dog has been used to sire or whelp a litter before being examined, the guarantee is void.  Spaying/neutering of your Northern Plains Retrievers dog before 18 months of age voids this guarantee.  This guarantee is valid only to the original purchaser of the dog.
